![]() Motivated by compassion, guided by reason. About | Calendar | Message Boards ANNOUNCEMENTS We had a great meetup yesterday but I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate Vegan Chicago's mission. We tend to do a lot of food related meetups. Heck, people who are vegan tend to focus a lot on the food issue but that is only secondary to the cause. While we avoid animal products it is only because of the justice issues surrounding the taking of animals' lives. Sure, there may be some positive health and environmental aspects to the vegan "lifestyle" but the real issue is the moral inconsistency of killing non-humans for no good reason at all. Veganism is a social justice act that you all participate in to remove your support and make a statement about the way we treat our fellow earthlings. Doing so within a culture that is heavily steeped in animal exploitation can be very difficult. We hope you find empowerment through Vegan Chicago and its events and realize there are a lot of people just like you (and there will be a lot more). Thank you for your pioneering efforts to practice what you peace! VEGAN CHICAGO MEETUP Welp, the Vegan Chicago Pizza Party Extravaganza Part II went great! It was crowded and a bit chaotic but alas this is how a party goes, especially one involving pizza. And there was pizza, lots of pizza! I'd like to thank everybody who came out and were so kind and patient. The Delisi's staff did a wonderful job too. Big thanks to Adrienne, Sara, the cooks and of course Brian the owner for carrying vegan pizza on their menu! Delisi's even donated a $25 gift certificate which we raffled off. Congratulations to Nick who won that! Delisi's makes their vegan pizzas with local hometown heroes Chicago Soy Dairy's vegan Teese cheese and Upton's Naturals vegan meat alternatives. Those products can be found in stores across Chicago especially at Whole Foods. Here's a secret for you pizza maniacs: order the vegan panzerotti from Delisis's. It's sorta like a calzone but deep fried instead of baked. It's not on the menu (yet?) but if you order one they'll know what you mean. It's killer! If you attended this meetup please do fill out the event review form that was emailed out. It will help us greatly in bringing better events to you in the future. Also if you took pictures please, feel free to upload them to the site. Thanks! VEGAN ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITIES The average person eats about 35 farm animals per year, adding up to thousands in a lifetime. Leafleting with literature on factory farming has been shown to be effective in creating new vegans and persuading others to reduce their consumption of animal products. By educating the public about animals suffering on factory farms we can inspire others to spare thousands, if not millions of animals, and ultimately work towards the end of exploitation. Join us!
Watchout! We already have our next Vegan Chicago Meetup locked in! Prepare for another onslaught of vegan hedonism. Remember, our events fill up fast. Not only do we provide a nice meal but the opportunity to hang out with people like yourselves in a vegan positive environment is the real value here. Keep that in mind next time we announce an event. They fill up fast and they fill up early. We know it's hard to commit so early sometimes but we hope you appreciate the effort and experience we provide enough to make the extra effort to clear your schedule for FUN! :) Thank you for all you do! cheers, Dave.Dandelion and the Vegan Chicago Crew |

hello fellow animal defender,
I've been discussing/thinking about some topics with a few other animal defenders and here are some ideas... 1. laison--between the assorted veg*n groups within Chicagoland...you know, somebody to store materials, somebody to connect the people to events and other groups perhaps? albeit our "movement" continues to gain in number, when it comes to communicating/streamlining the events (with other groups) i think there can be more communicative efficiency... 2. new/more signs and banners for protesting/demonstrations etc: i have posters i can donate if someone can donate wood er whatever to make the signs?also, i have a decent random bunch of other materials left over to get out there ![]() 3. i would love to host some meetings/meetups at our apartment here on the Northwest side of Chi-town. True, there is a lot of foot traffic downtown to leaflet/protest at, but when it comes to meetings per se, i feel there is a great need to incorporate different locales so that peops that live in farther sections of town (n/w for example) can have easier access to some...(also, there is a considerable crowd of people out here between the schools NEIU, North Park University, Loyola, the HS veg society down the street run by Marcos, Truman college in Uptown etc)... Lemme know what ya think of these concepts. I have been getting back into the scene after a graduating hiatus. I am still technically acting as Prez of NEIU's Animal Rights Club, but will probably be moving in the coming year...I'm on the hunt for a job and in process of applying to grad school, so I don't have a lot of time to donate. I am however interested in helping out where and when i can. Thanks and have a great cruelty-free day! ![]() Regina M. Torres |
