Ras Dashen Ethiopian Restaurant (map)
Greetings, all!
For the month of April, we're indulging in the unique dining experience of Ras Dashen! If you're unfamiliar with Ethiopian cuisine, you're in for a real treat!
Ethiopian food is traditionally served on large communal trays, sans utensils. In lieu of such, injera, a thin, spongy, and slightly tangy bread, is torn into pieces and used to scoop up comestibles from the trays. (We get to eat with our fingers... oh, boy!)
Our gathering will take place in a private room at the back of the restaurant and, served buffet-style, our meal will consist of the following:
Yeqaysur salata – Beet salad served chilled with a tangy dressing
Kik alicha – Yellow split peas cooked with onions, garlic, ginger, and green peppers
Tikil gomen alicha – Mildly spiced cabbage, potato, and carrot stew
Shirro - Spicy, pureed stew of ground chickpeas
Diblik atkilt – Green beans, potatoes, zucchini, and carrots stewed with tomatoes
Qosta – Spinach cooked with onions, garlic, and spices
Don't miss this opportunity to take your taste buds on an adventure they'll never forget!
Hope to see you there!

I'd like to chime in here, too. Throughout the year, we try to provide a varied mix of dining experiences for our members, and we typically stay within an identified price range that seems to work well for most folks. However, on occasion, we elect to bump things up a notch if we feel a venue provides a unique and worthwhile experience.
Part 2: This year's meal at Ras Dashen is $1.50 more than we charged last year, and to go along with that, the menu has been ramped up a bit. A cold salad we had last year is being replaced this year with a more substantial hot entree. For those who were present at Ras Dashen in 2009, the first three items listed were included in that buffet, but the last three are new offerings this year.
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
Howdy folks, I know this event is a bit on the pricey side but this was the best we could do, sorry. Actually we're even eating some cost ourselves. We hope that people will see the value in meeting with other people who are vegan but we undstand the cost concerns. Thanks!
