Muzzling a Movement: The Effects of Anti-Terrorism Law, Money, and Politics on Animal Activism
Join author Dara Lovitz for a 'cocktail' hour with raw hors d'oeuvres, discussion, and a book signing.
Since the passage of the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act in 2006 and other ?eco-terror? laws, the ability of animal activists to raise public awareness about the exploitation and abuse of animals in factory farms, laboratories, and other industries has been substantially curtailed.
Muzzling a Movement is an in-depth and tightly argued analysis of eco-terror laws. Examining the legislative history of these constitutionally flawed laws and documenting the concurrent animal liberation movement, it becomes clear that these laws were calculated to serve the economic interests of the industries that profit from animal abuse while silencing the voices of those who speak out on behalf of animals.
Dara Lovitz is an Adjunct Professor of Animal Law at Temple University Beasley School of Law and the Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University. She has written and lectured extensively on a variety of animal law topics, including eco-terror laws.
