I've had no luck finding vegan donuts in Chicago... until now. I just found out about Glazed Donuts. Has anyone tried these yet? My heart's a-fluttering with anticipation.

Hot damn, good catch! This is the first I've heard of these. Now that we're starting to crack the pizza market it's about time for donuts to catch up! cool

Thanks for the headsup.

Looks like the only non-vegan ingredient they have is honey (and they can totally give that up). I wonder who these folks are and how long the company's been around.

The only vegan donuts I've ever found were donut holes at various Whole Foods. They are pretty yummy! But someone should definitely try this Glazed Chicago place and report back... :)

Those donut holes at WFM are kind of dry if we're thinking of the same ones. Before buying them, ask a team member if you can try them (they are more than happy to do this for you).

Thanks for finding the aforementioned donuts. I will be sure to try them at Swim, Bite or Greener Grocer (the three places they're sold). Thanks again!

Everyone's forgetting about The Bleeding Heart bakery in Rogers Park and Oak Park. They have vegan donuts along with awesome vegan cupcakes, cake, cheesecake, brownies and so forth. LOTS of goodies. You can ask them what they have daily via Twitter @Bleeding_Heart, the Oak Park store's Twitter feed is @BleedingHeartOP. Website is: http://thebleedinghea...

The owners were recently on the Food Network for some various cake challenges too.

The glazed Chicago donuts are great. Write to them and get on their email list (or follow the twitter) to get the week's flavors. If you want to but a big order (like a dozen) email her and you can pick it up on a Friday at one of the delivery spots.

Here's the skinny via email:

Thanks so much for your interest in Glazed! I started out about a year and a half ago making cake donuts from seasonal local ingredients. I originally used both a vegan and a non-vegan batter, but eventually switched to all vegan as it was simply better.

Not all of my donuts are vegan, but the base of all my donuts is vegan. I feature more than 60 seasonal flavors and the only time they are not vegan is if one of the integral flavor ingredients is an animal or dairy product; for instance bacon, white chocolate or honey. This ingredient as well as any added nuts will always be a part of the donuts' title so there should never be any confusion on which donuts are or are not vegan.

This week I will be featuring the Sin&Sugar Donut, a vanilla cake donut with a cinnamon sugar crust, the Glazed Local Pumpkin Donut and the Maple Bacon Donut (not vegan ;-)

These will be sold on Wednesday at the Green City Farmers Market (held at the Peggy Notaebart Nature Museum) and on the weekend (starting Friday) at Bite Cafe, Swim Cafe & Green Grocer.

I will also be selling at a special charity event for School Street Arts, a program that promotes AIDS awareness among youth, Saturday & Sunday at the Empty Bottle, 3 to 5pm. There will be a special performance entitled Rockin' Santa, and a craft/bake sale. Tickets are $20.

In addition, Glazed Donuts will be sold at the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair at the Pulaski Field House Saturday & Sunday from 11 to 7pm.

And (it's a busy weekend), I'll also be selling at an indoor farmer's market at the First Evangelical Church, 5255 N. Ashland, Sunday from 11:30 to 3pm.

All of these places and events have lots to offer and should be a blast if you'd like to let your group know about them. I'm happy to offer catering or to reserve donuts should any one be worried they'll sell out before they get their opportunity to try them!

You can check out my website, www.glazedchicago.com for more information. I can also be found on Facebook & Twitter. You or anyone in your group can also sign up for my weekly newsletter, which lets people know what the week's featured flavors are and where to find me.

If you have any questions or if there's anything else I could do for you, please just let me know.

Thanks!

Kirsten

Last weekend I had a peanut butter and chocolate donut from Bleeding Heart and nearly died of bliss. Truly one of those "moan aloud" moments. They always have a ton of vegan goodies, but this PB&C donut was masterful.

For those who aren't aware Fritz Pastry also offers delicious vegan donuts, as well as vegan cupcakes & coffee cake. Just ask what's vegan at the counter and they'll give you the 411 ;)
