Vegan Chicago is an informal, loosely-knit, volunteer-based organization that maintains its membership through Meetup.com. Membership is free and noncommittal, and is open to anyone (even if you are not currently vegan).

Mission
We provide social networking opportunities and local resources for people who are interested in veganism. There are many sites out there advocating “going vegan”, but not as many to support people in the day-to-day details of how to actually go about doing so. We’re here to help!

We consider compassion and basic fairness towards all animals to be the core of veganism. It’s not just a diet.

Vegan Chicago is a proponent of science-based methodology and critical thinking. There’s a lot of information and misinformation out there, and we strive to help our members make sense of it all. Well-informed healthy vegans will be able to make a difference for all animals (including humans!).

Events

The first Saturday of every month, we have a dine-out event (the Meetup) at a vegan (or vegan-friendly) restaurant.

At various times throughout the month, we also have more casual “Vegan on Tap” events, often at bars or other non-restaurant venues.

Communications
We send out emails that contain information about upcoming events and any special announcements related strictly to Vegan Chicago. We have no access to your personal information through Meetup.com, and would never ever share it even if we did. No worries about spam or unsolicited emails!

Promotion

As a rule, Vegan Chicago does not promote 3rd-party products, groups, or events. We will very occasionally do so when it's related to our mission.

People who join Vegan Chicago with the sole intent to post on the message board will have their messages deleted.

Finances & Cost
We maintain no treasury, so any money we collect goes directly towards a specific event. There are costs involved with maintaining the Meetup.com account, event supplies, website maintenance, etc, but these are paid for through the generosity of our volunteer organizers, at no cost to members.
